Thompson is primarily known as an illustrator, mostly for books and magazines. She also has done work on role playing cards.
In comic books, Ruth Thompson did work for Palliard Press in Xxenophile in 1990 and the Xxenophile feature Volcanic Nights in 1992.

Not to be confused with the Ruth Thompson who did art work for George W. Dougherty Publishing Company series Future World Comics, in 1946. Also not to be confused with children's author and writer and editor for David McKay's King Comics title, Ruth Plumly Thompson.
