Sawyer's 1950s and 1960s comics are frequently signed 'Tom Scheuer'. He is more recently known as 'Tom Sawyer' or 'Tommy Sawyer' for his work as producer and writer on the 1990s TV series 'Murder She Wrote'. He changed his name to Tom Sawyer. He has written an autobiography, 'The Adventures of the Real Tom Sawyer' (2017: BearManor Media, Albany Georgia).
