Biography:

Ray Helle worked in the type design department of Mergenthaler Linotype. He did free lance gag cartoons until 1941 and then entered military service, serving in Europe. After the war, he continued to do gag cartoons until 1954. He created the strips 'The Flibbertys' (1953-1972) and 'Box Seat' for the Chicago Tribune. He also self-syndicated 'Sam & Ellie' and and the puzzle 'Bible Crostic'. He later did 'Pet Parade' and 'Life With Lucky' for the National Enquirer, and semi-retired in 1989.
