Biography: Ed Leffingwell and his younger brother Bob were cousins of Harold Gray. Ed began his comics career as an assistant to Gray before starting his own strip Little Joe with Gray's help, the Sunday beginning on October 1, 1933. Little Joe was continued by Ed's brother Bob upon Ed's unexpected death in 1936. His last Sunday strip was published on December 6, 1936 and from thereon out was signed just "Leffingwell".
Leffingwell originally received both a Bachelor's (in 1926) and Engineering (in 1928) degrees with New York University. He would first work for the Post and McCord Engineering company in New York City and then Just Structural Street company in White Plains, New York. In 1932 Ed began working as an assistant for Gray at same time attending an art school in New York City.
Ed Leffingwell died at 3:40pm on October 10, 1936 at Ossining Hospital due to complications from an appendix operation the week prior.
