Biography:

McCleery was the comics editor for AP Newsfeatures (Associated Press) syndicate and wrote the Oaky Doaks comic strip for that syndicate from June 17, 1935, to December 30, 1961.

McCleery was also a magazine editor for Life and Ladies Home Journal, a newspaper editor for P.M. (New York) and Hearst Newspapers, newspaper reporter, author, and Broadway and television playwright in his career.
