William McCleery (b. 1911)

Born: 1911 September 15 in Hastings, Nebraska, United States

Died: 2000 January 16 in Princeton, New Jersey, United States

Biography: McCleery was the comics editor for AP Newsfeatures (Associated Press) syndicate and wrote the Oaky Doaks comic strip for that syndicate from June 17, 1935, to December 30, 1961.

McCleery was also a magazine editor for Life and Ladies Home Journal, a newspaper editor for P.M. (New York) and Hearst Newspapers, newspaper reporter, author, and Broadway and television playwright in his career.
