Donovan's primary work was for Buster Brown, serving as a writer for Buster Brown Comic Book (Brown Shoe Co., 1945 series) giveaway comic book from 1945 to 1959 and for the radio show. He wrote for the comic book the features "Ghanga Gunga", "Kulah and the Jinni in the Jug", "Little Fox", and Smilin' Ed and His Gang" all during 1945 (and maybe thereafter).

He was married to June Foray, an animated voice actor.
