Hendrix made national headlines during his time with the Works Progress Administration (WPA) when he was free-lance contracted to create anti-Franklin Roosevelt posters and stickers for the Republican Party during the 1936 election campaign.

Though the work was done on his own time, he received criticism for being a WPA employee working on anti-Roosevelt material.
